Dr. Myndert Van Patten was born 01JUL1835 in Sterling Station, Cayuga Co., New York and died 14APR1931 in Sterling, Rice County, Kansas. He was the 9th child of 14 born to Christiaan Haverly Van Patten (1801-1893) and Maria (Mary) Relyea (1800-1898).
His Civil War records list him as a Private in Co. F, 180th New York Volunteer Infantry; promoted 25AUG1862 to Full Corporal; demoted 07JAN1863 back to Private. He was wounded, then discharged 19FEB1863 at the Convelescent Camp in Virginia.

Myndert was married twice, first (about 1865) to Mary Adalaide Foote who was born 21APR1845 in Hannibal, Oswego County, New York and died 01FEB1885 in Sterling, Rice County, Kansas. They had six children: Lutrude Isabelle, Carrie Melesse, George Foote, Mary Elizabeth, Fernette Adelaide, and Winifred Estelle Van Patten.
Myndert was married secondly, about 1886 to Lettie May Muse who was born 23DEC1864 in Elkmanville, Ohio and died 05MAR1940 in Sterling, Rice County, Kansas. They had three children: Myndert Muse, Guy Graham and Lowell Anderson Van Patten.
